Question:

If you receive a ticket in one state worth 8 points, but live in another state where it is only worth 3 points, how does the insurance company calculate it?

Answer:

Most states' driver license systems are linked by an interstate DL system (I think all participate now but Wisconsin), but in all likelihood it will be reported to your home state, but the points against the license would be converted based on the scale used by your home state.
